Agentic workflows

Automate workflows with AI assistants

Assistants don't just answer questions - they can carry out the work a request needs. In an agentic workflow, an Assistant completes a task from start to finish: it works out the steps, takes them across your connected systems, and does as much as it can on its own, pausing for a person whenever a change needs approval. Repetitive, high-volume work like access requests and onboarding turns into a quick review.

How it works

An Assistant carries out a workflow using the connectors and tools it's been given. When a request comes in, it works out what needs to happen and takes each step in turn. Unlike a fixed Automation rule, it adapts to the specifics of the request instead of following one predefined path.

It runs on the tickets it's set up for, or when you mention @Suptask, and always stops for approval before changing anything. Learn more about Assistants in Intelligence with Suptask AI.

Multi-step tasks across systems

A single request often takes several steps, and sometimes spans more than one system. An Assistant chains them together so the whole task is handled from the ticket, without an agent working through each system by hand.

For example, onboarding a new hire can mean creating their account, adding them to the right groups, and granting access to shared resources. The Assistant carries out each step in order and reports back on the ticket as it goes.

A human stays in the loop

An Assistant does as much as it safely can on its own, then pauses for a person before making a change. An agent reviews the proposed action and approves it - nothing is changed in a connected system until they do. Routine work stays fast, while sensitive changes stay under human control.

An Assistant never changes anything in a connected system on its own. It stops for a person to review and approve every change.

Common workflows

A few of the workflows an Assistant can run:

  • Access requests - grant a user access to a shared drive, group, or other resource after confirming their details.

  • Onboarding - create a new team member's account and add them to the right groups and resources.

  • Offboarding - suspend a leaver's account and revoke their access.

  • Data enriching - Pulling information from another system to enrich tickets with additional data.

Each one runs from the ticket, with an agent approving before any change is made.

Set it up

Agentic workflows run through the connectors and tools you enable on an Assistant, configured per Inbox in the Suptask Web app:

  1. Open the Inbox and add or edit an Assistant.

  2. Give it the connectors for the systems it should act in.

  3. Enable the specific tools it's allowed to use.

Only the tools you enable are available to the Assistant, and a person approves changes before they're made.
